The NFDI4Health Health Study Hub has undergone a fundamental upgrade to make access to study information easier, faster, and more intuitive for users. New features, expanded content, and technical enhancements now enable datasets to be found and reused more efficiently.

Update for the Health Study Hub: A Stronger and Smarter Platform

The Health Study Hub is the central service of NFDI4Health, providing a platform for the publication and discoverability of clinical, epidemiological, and public health data. Researchers can search for health data based on specific metadata, instruments, and other resources. Currently, around 44,000 studies, instruments, and additional documents are available. Over the past six months, from October 2024 to May 2025, we have rolled out a series of significant software updates aimed at improving usability, search functionality, and data management for our users.

Smarter Search and Sharing
We've made it easier than ever to search and share information. Shareable and bookmarkable search URLs, a new Query Builder (BETA) for advanced queries, and improved relevance sorting now ensure that users can find exactly what they need-and easily share it with others. In addition, entries can now be shared directly via email and on social media platforms like LinkedIn, Mastodon, and more.

Enhanced Entry Management
Curation has been streamlined with features like Version Comparison, allowing users to quickly spot changes between versions, and the ability to publish minor versions for small updates. A new Cite button simplifies generating citations in various styles right from an entry's details page. We also introduced a new Export button, enabling users to download metadata for entries in DC-Terms and JSON formats for further use and integration.

Expanded Content: Import from German Clinical Trials Register
To further enrich our platform, we successfully imported approximately 18,000 entries from the German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS). This major addition strengthens the breadth and depth of available study information and enhances discoverability for users.

Upgraded Infrastructure
Behind the scenes, we completed a major migration to SOLR-based search technology and upgraded to Dataverse Version 6.6, bringing faster performance, enhanced reliability, and better search maintainability. We also updated to Metadata Schema (MDS) v3.3.1, improving metadata clarity and consistency.

User Interface and Experience Improvements
We introduced scroll-to-top buttons, range sliders for numeric filters, more intuitive filter menus, dynamic hiding of non-effective filters, and clearer documentation throughout the platform. We've also added clear callouts for missing mandatory fields when publishing drafts, helping users complete entries more efficiently.

Continuous Bug Fixes and Minor Improvements
Every release included numerous minor enhancements, from right-click navigation and improved contributor field display, to better highlighting of filter types and faster page loading for large datasets.

Thank you to our users and curators for your valuable feedback, which continuously drives our development - more updates are already on the horizon!
