The three-hour exchange brought together experts from Taiwan and Germany, including representatives of NFDI4Health, ZB MED, the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM), the University Hospital of Cologne and the University of Göttingen. Discussions focused on the developments of secure and FAIR health data infrastructures, data governance, consent management, interoperability standards such as HL7 FHIR and OMOP, and experiences with distributed and federated approaches to data analysis.
Particular attention was given to practical experiences with TREs and secure data access. The German hosts presented approaches including distributed analytics, synthetic data, DataSHIELD and controlled analysis environments, while the Taiwanese delegation shared insights into the country’s health data infrastructure, biobanks and ongoing development of its own TRE framework.
The exchange also highlighted opportunities for cooperation. Both sides expressed strong interest in continued dialogue, particularly on synthetic data, federated learning, data governance and potential joint research projects.
