DataSHIELD: Data Protection-Compliant Analyses of Sensitive Data
This year’s program included hands-on workshops — one introducing DataSHIELD analysis for beginners, and another covering how to install the infrastructure using Opal and Armadillo. Moreover, the status of international expansion and infrastructure developments as well as new methods were discussed.
NFDI4Health: Advancing Secure Health Research with DataSHIELD
NFDI4Health joined the conference and showcased their development of new approaches and real-world case studies enhancing DataSHIELD’s functionality:
- Reusable Harmonisation Procedures by Florian Schwarz — streamlining dataset preparation for distributed analysis within NFDI4Health.
- Federated GAMLSS Models led by Annika Swenne — enabling advanced pooled analysis using generalized additive models for location, scale, and shape.
- Privacy-Preserving Synthetic Data Generation by Andreas Mändle — introducing novel techniques using partition-of-unity copulas to enhance data privacy.
- Case Study on Screening Colonoscopy by Nadja Lendle — addressing challenges in emulating target trials with time-to-event outcomes in a federated setting.
The event emphasised the importance of making DataSHIELD tools and workflows accessible to a wider range of users and establish it as a daily tool for researchers. Overall, the conference served as an excellent platform for both newcomers and experienced users to share knowledge and build collaborations!
