The Meet-the-Data@ Gesundheitsforschung webinar series by NFDI4Health & BIH QUEST presents valuable datasets from leading research institutes across various areas of health sciences.

Webinar Meet-the-Data: Insights into Major COVID-19 Data Projects

In this session, we will have a closer look at the major COVID-19 data projects LEOSS, NAPKON, and ORCHESTRA:

Janne Vehreschild will provide a practical insight into three large prospective data collections on COVID-19: the Lean European Open Study on SARS-CoV-2 (LEOSS), the National Pandemic Cohort Network (NAPKON), and Connecting European Cohorts to Increase Common and Effective Response to SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic (ORCHESTRA). Additionally, the transition of NAPKON into the Infection Study Network, as a long-term, broad data collection within the University Medicine Network (NUM), will be described. A common feature of all these projects is that they are designed from the outset for open data and shared use, while simultaneously aiming to safeguard the legitimate interests of the participating sites. In the mentioned projects, data and biological samples from several tens of thousands of patients from various subgroups with SARS-CoV-2 have been collected, which can be made available through different mechanisms, ensuring quality and data minimisation. Access is provided through a standardised, transparent application process, which considers scientific, ethical, and data protection requirements. In this edition, the structure and potential uses of the aforementioned projects will be introduced, and it will be shown how the data can be used for various research questions. The past experiences and lessons learned, as well as future strategies, will be presented in a comprehensive manner.
