Under the theme “BIG DATA. small data. Your Data – Transitions in the age of biomedical AI”, the ISCB GMDS 2026 focused in particular on the potential and challenges of AI and data-driven research in healthcare. Topics such as Health Data Access and Reuse, interoperability, metadata, data quality and AI in Medicine were on the agenda. The keynote presentations by Andre Dekker and Marylyn Ritchie, who explored the opportunities and limitations of AI in health research, were particularly memorable.
NFDI4Health was represented with six contributions. The focus was on key questions surrounding health data infrastructures – from semantic health data and metadata to the European HealthDCAT-AP standard and AI-supported data management. In addition to several sessions and workshops, NFDI4Health also presented a poster on the visualisation of data quality results.
Our conclusion: interoperable, high-quality and accessible health data are an important foundation for harnessing the potential of AI for health research and improving healthcare.
We would like to thank everyone for the lively exchange and the opportunity to make valuable new connections within the international community!
